10.3.19 (I almost forgot, but I asked Cady)
This is WILD & WOOLY TOBOGGAN at LITTLE AMERRICKA in Marshall, Wisconsin, the only operating Chance toboggan.
45 ft. tall
450 ft. long
Vertical lift hill
Opened at Little Amerricka in 1993
The Chance Toboggan is easily one of the most historic roller coasters of all time. These coasters were perfect for small parks and traveling showmen due to their compact layout, easy portability, and cheap price tag. The toboggan reached its peak in the 60s and 70s, even being at major amusement parks like Hersheypark (which actually had two!). However, since then, they started dwindling in popularity. Nowadays, Wild & Wooly Toboggan is the only one operating and is a ride coaster enthusiasts should try to ride.
However, that doesn’t mean it’s a good ride. Wild & Wooly Toboggan has a very clunky layout. You sit with one (two if you’re small) people in a car. The car is a cage weirdly shaped for you to fit in. After that, you ascend an indoor vertical lift hill. I am pretty sure the toboggans were the first to have vertical lifts, correct me if I’m wrong. Then, you circle the lift hill all the way to the bottom before going through a few clunky hills, and there you have it.
Wild & Wooly Toboggan opened at a small park in Arkansas called Dogpatch USA between 1969 and 1973. There, it had the iconic name Earthquake McGoon’s Brain Rattler. It closed there in 1988, and it went to a small park in Indiana called Seven Peaks Water Park Duneland under the name Toboggan. However, it is unknown when it opened there, and it closed presumably a year after it opened in 1990. It went to Little Amerricka three years later, where it is today.
Wild & Wooly Toboggan is also known as Swiss Toboggan, and RCDB classifies it as that. But for the sake of alliteration, we don’t talk about that. And plus everyone else calls it the fun name.
What do you think of this ride?
