I just know very little about psychology. 🤷♀️ But one thing I know is the difference between extrinsic and intrinsic motivation.
Extrinsic motivation is the force that arises from outside of you. It often includes a prize, social recognition, money, etc. On the other side, there’s intrinsic motivation which arises just from within yourself. It’s often based on ambition and it rewards you with a sense of accomplishment. And from the view and experience of a 19-year-old girl that has loved social sciences for a really long time and has struggled with natural sciences in school, I can tell you that the latter is a lot more promising and durable force. 🙊
In the end, it is you who will sit down in those lectures, who will work through worksheet after worksheet, read thousands of pages of academic papers and so much more.
Understanding the term of motivation is essential in many situations of life. We’re human beings. We are not “just staying alive” to say it with Fyodor Dostoyevsky’s words. “The mystery of human existence lies […] but in finding something to live for.“ 🌟
For me, I study and read a lot because I love those moments when I can connect concepts of political or cultural science that I learnt in theory with situations or phenomena I encounter in real-life. Just recently when I gave a presentation about Ernesto Laclau and his work “On Populist Reason”. Today, I read about the campaign of President Roh Moo-hyun in the early 2000s and immediately connected it with Laclau’s theory.
That’s what I love about studying. I found my your reason, my “Why”.
Find your motivation. It might be a job YOU see as YOUR calling, a certain lifestyle, science, religion, money. Do not run from this question. Ask yourself: Why? 😊

ITS BEEN JUST A WEEK SINCE I DROPPED OUT AND I COULD NOT FEEL ANY BETTER... (Part 1 : Mental health)
Wait ! Pause! Before you assume anything, and think I am being an advocate on dropping out and stuff. Hear me out. This is very personal.
Back in 2017 when I was a fresher, college to me was like "the thing". I thought "Yes !!! This is it !! I am gonna create, invent, participate, this and that.." I literally thought I ll now meet people, network, go places, have good relationships and friendships.
But that dream was shattered in like first 6 months of college itself. In my 3 years of being a student I have hardly met 5-6 people who are genuinely passionate for their dreams and hardly 2-3 professor who actually took their jobs seriously.
Everytime I sat somewhere in the campus or near. All I could hear is gossips and bullshiting. Who's dating who? Kisne kiska kataya?Yeh aisa hai , voh vaisa hai! Meine itne ki daru pi...Isko committee se kaise nikale?. Are voh slut hai !! It was a continuous showdown of ego and competition. Short term pleasures and nothing purposeful.
Yes I agree , that its everywhere. But now I have control over what I listen to, where i sit , where I eat, who I would like to work with.
College made me suicidal, it did. I felt highly misunderstood. Every time I walked anywhere I felt like everyone around me is judging me, talking shit about me. Some people had the audacity to walk up to my bestfriend and tell her that she shouldn't be hanging around me. "Tujhe bhi bigad degi "That affected my mental health. •
I would ask myself what have I done to this people? ( because I usually mind my business and don't even gossip) I will choose peace of mind over everything and anything, again and again. I am far from perfect. But I know in my heart that I am a good human being. •
I ll resume my studies in future, for now I need to fix the damage to my mental health.

quotd: Night owl or morning lark? 🌙☀️ For the past three days, I managed to wake up early and get to one the libraries at my university at least 2 hours before classes started to work through my to-do list that I wrote down the night before. During lunch break and after class, I sat down at a quieter spot and studied even more. 🙈 I’ve always admired people such as @graceleeproject who wake up early and seem to be so much more productive than me throughout the day. 😧 So for the past 3 days, I’ve come home in the evening at around 5 or 6 and there weren’t a lot of tasks left on my to-do list. It was a lot more relaxing to just come home, eat dinner, and maybe work on one more task before going to bed. 😊 I realized that even though I didn’t change the amount of time I study using my Forest app and I didn’t study longer in comparison to the last few weeks, I’m so much more productive when I’m at university than when I’m at home. 🙊🙊 Of course, I notice my body needs some time to adjust to this habit since I’ve been waking up about 2 hours later every day for the past year, but I’ll “work hard” to make it a habit. 😊 any tips? What does your morning routine look like? When do you usually wake up? 😊

Mornings are my time and no one else’s. It’s when I prioritize myself, investing in my wellbeing. Today I kickstarted my day early at 5 AM. Wrote my morning pages, meditated, fed the cats, and went to yoga with friends. It was a peaceful start to a busy week.
Did you make time for yourself today? How are you starting your week? ...
My first day of the new semester is over and it was soo exhausting. For me it’s extremely difficult to find my way back to a decent university routine. I’m still used to (more or less) being able to sleeping in or staying up late... ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀ ⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀⠀
