Today decided to test how good 2015 MacBook Pro handles SwiftUI
Updated my test project with all the requirements from #100DaysOfSwiftUI challenge using my backup/travel laptop - 13" MBP i5 8GB. I would not say that it is impossible to use it, but Canvas (App preview) crashed and failed to launch multiple times. Deadly show workflow comparing with my main computer - 2018 Mac mini. The app is quite simple, just one screen, data input screen and simple calculations on the background. With a more complex app that would be slower or even impossible to use app preview.
I had a discussion recently with another freelancer who believes that hardware does not matter and it is still ok to build Apps on 5+ years old hardware. Waiting now when he will start to work with SwiftUI using dual-core processor :) Sure, you can always test on the device, but that is way slower developer process.
In my opinion speed in development is very important. That allows us to test, fail, prototype and iterate faster. Waiting on a computer is one more distraction in the workflow, do not like that.
Waiting on the MBP line upgrade to get my mobile setup back into the shape. -
What is you opinion on hardware upgrade? Are you using computers untill they broke or upgrade as soon as see that they become slow?
