I got to do another #firsttattoo last night this time for a #marine . My client was in on leave and had decided it was time to take the leap and get his first #tattoo . .
Noah wanted This symbol for #warrior to represent himself and his other #marinecorps brothers. Like many people, he knew what he wanted but didn’t necessarily know how to make it into a cool tattoo. .
This is one of the things I think is most important when it comes to choosing a #tattooartist and is my responsibility as an artist to give you options and advice so my client b don’t end up with a boring, basic tattoo that they regret later on in life because it is doesn’t have any #wowfactor .
The original reference picture that he showed me was straight black and would have ended up looking like a piece of pointy tribal from the 90s. I immediately imported the design into #procreate and drew a couple of different options that I thought would look good on the body. .
He chose to go with this etched stone look. I think that even in picking this option when I showed it to him on my #ipad he didn’t expect it to turn out looking this cool.
It’s easy as a #tattooist to lose sight of how special a first tattoo is . The atmosphere of the shop, the process, the pain, and the final result are all new and our clients don’t realize that certain things are even possible on skin, especially for it to look better then it did on paper. .
We had taken a break after the major work was finished before I started lining again to add the cracks around the design. Noah looked at himself in the mirror and his face was priceless. He couldn’t believe how cool I had made this tattoo look and was really amazed, so much that he actually asked me how I had made his skin raise up and if it would stay like that. I explained that it was a visual effect and a trick of light and shadow. I will remember that question probably for the rest of my career. .
